Sixth Lewes Scouts celebrate seventy years
On Saturday 27 September, 6th Lewes Beavers, Cubs and Scouts came together at the Scout hut to celebrate 70 successful years of Scouting. It was quite an event, with games of rounders played in the sun, a rousing campfire and lots of birthday cake. However, the highlight of the day was the unveiling of the new, blue-trimmed scarves and badges, which were handed out by the Mayor of Lewes, Emily Clarke.
To depict our group’s past, the Scouts created a detailed timeline of 6th Lewes’ history, including the history of scouting, which was on display on the walls of the hut for all to see. We were delighted to host Stephen Cornford, a member of 6th Lewes from 1964 and the first from our group to earn the coveted Queen’s Scouts Award.
Old and young alike enjoyed the festivities. “The decorations, barbecue, games and fireside singing made it such a memorable way to celebrate all these years together.” said the Sheffield family, whose son Ethan is a Scout. “Our children have been part of the 6th Lewes Scouting family for quite a few years now, and we’re especially grateful for all the hard work that goes into making events like this happen.” It was also a chance to remember the adventures and experiences of the past year at 6th Lewes and look forward to many more birthdays!
